Master Kente Cloth Weaver on FSU Campus This Week

Faculty, staff and students are invited to meet Thompson Avornyotse from Ghana who is a master weaver of Kente cloth.  Mr. Avornyotse has woven cloth for three American Presidents including President Obama.   He will be weaving Kente cloth once reserved only for royalty in the Rosenthal Gallery.  The Gallery is exhibiting “Textiles of Unity: Ghanaian Kente.”  This special exhibition features many patterns and designs of Kente and Adinkra cloth. 

The art gallery, located in the Rosenthal building is open to the public from 12 noon until 4:00 pm daily.  This week Mr. Avornyotse will present Kente weaving demonstrations on a loom specially built for this exhibition on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:00 pm– 4:00 pm, Friday from 9:00 am– 4:00 pm, and Saturday from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm.  FSU faculty are invited to bring their students to the gallery to meet and experience the work of a master artist.
