New Director of Student Health Services Named
Dr. Janice Haynie, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, announced today the appointment of Linda R. Melvin as the new Student Health Services Director at Fayetteville State University (FSU). Prior to her appointment at FSU, Melvin served as a school nurse for 13 years in North Carolina public schools.
At FSU, Melvin will be responsible for the daily operations of the health services center. Student Health Services promotes and maintains conditions that are conducive for healthful living. It guides and encourages students to accept health as a positive value of life, and stimulates an interest in students to make healthy adjustments to their environment. Melvin will supervise a Student Health Services staff that consists of licensed practical nurses, physician’s assistants, nurse practitioners, an office manager, pharmacist, and an administrative support team.
“We are pleased to have someone of Linda Melvin’s caliber to join the Division of Student Affairs team,” Haynie said. “I am confident that she will serve us well as we strive to provide our students with the best in health care services that we possibly can.”
Melvin is a native of Roseboro, North Carolina. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. She also earned a Master of Divinity Degree from Howard University.
FSU is the second-oldest public institution in North Carolina. A member of the University of North Carolina System, FSU has nearly 6,000 students and offers degrees in more than 60 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
