The Coca-Cola Foundation Provides First Generation Scholarships to Fayetteville State University Students
$50,000 Worth of First Generation Scholarships to Be Awarded to Fayetteville State University Students
Students at Fayetteville State University (FSU) will be the first in their families to attend college thanks to $50,000 worth of scholarships provided by The Coca-Cola Foundation. Four students will receive $12,500 over the course of their four-year education.
“It is an honor for Coke Consolidated to be a part of this amazing moment in the students’ lives,” said Reginald Bean, director of multi-cultural marketing at Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated (CCBCC). “We have a strong commitment to the communities where we live, work and do business. We are excited to watch the students’ journey of higher education and wish them the best of luck in their college careers and beyond.”
The scholarship recipients will be selected by Fayetteville State University. The first generation college students that qualify for a scholarship must have maintained a grade point average of 2.8 (on a 4.0 scale) and must be the first in their immediate family to attend college. The Coca-Cola Foundation will provide a $50,000 grant to support scholarships of $3,125 per year over four years to four students. Each student will receive $12,500 over four years of college. These funds will provide needed assistance to these students to support their pursuit of an education.
“Fayetteville State University is grateful to the Coca-Cola Foundation for this investment in our students,” said FSU Chancellor James A. Anderson. “These scholarships come at a time when education costs are rising and needy and deserving students are seeking other ways to finance their college educations. I cannot be more pleased and thankful that Coca-Cola has selected FSU to be among the recipients of its generosity.”
After the individual students have been selected, CCBCC and FSU will invite both the students and their families to an award ceremony this fall. At this celebration, students will be recognized for their accomplishment and will be welcomed into both the FSU and Coca-Cola families.
