FSU Focuses on Issue of Hazing

Click image for larger viewIn light of several hazing incidents that have taken place on college campuses across the country,  Fayetteville State University (FSU) will host “Hazing Prevention Week 2012” with a week of awareness workshops  and a guest speaker. The events will be held September 24-28, 2012.  All events are free and open to the public.

One of the featured events is Attorney Chuck Hobbs.  Hobbs will lead a thought-provoking discussion regarding “The Truth Behind Hazing” and its legal ramifications.  Hobbs is a trial lawyer and political columnist based in Florida.  Over the past ten years he has served as counsel in a number of high profile cases including, the 2006 Kappa Alpha Psi hazing case.  Hobbs currently serves as the defense attorney for Dr. Julian White, the former band director of the Florida A & M Marching 100 band.  Hobbs is a freelance writer and political commentator who has appeared on CNN, Fox News and the E! Network.

This program will explore the culture of hazing and its consequences on college campuses.

Tuesday, September 25, 2012
The National Pan-Hellenic Council at Fayetteville State University Presents: Hazing Hurts
Location: Rudolph Jones Student Center, Room 236
Time: 7:00 p.m.

Hazing Hurts explores the misunderstood history of hazing, defines it with scenarios and works on getting to the bottom of the longing to haze and pledge.

FSU Student Activities Council Presents: “The Truth Behind Hazing”
Location: Rudolph Jones Student Center, Room 236
Time: 8:00 p.m.

This interactive program provides a forum for students to share their opinions about hazing. This event will include a panel that will consist of administrators and students.

Division of Student Affairs Presents The Truth: Seeing through the Haze featuring Chuck Hobbs
Location: Seabrook Auditorium
Time: 3:00 p.m. 

Friday, September 28, 2012
AUTOS Commuter Student Association Presents: Sign the Pledge—Take a Stand!
Location: SBE Lobby & Knuckles Building Lobby
Time: 2:00 p.m.

Students must take a stand against hazing! The AUTOS Commuter Student Association will encourage student to sign the anti-hazing pledge.
