On February 20th, 2013, the 118th anniversary of the passing of Frederick Douglass, the Fayetteville State University Debate Team will host the 3rd Annual Frederick Douglass Debate Series. In the first two years of the event, Fayetteville State debated against local rival Methodist University. For the 3rd year of the event, Fayetteville State University is pleased to announce a new opponent: Hampton University.
The Inaugural Frederick Douglass Debates were held on February 14th, 2011 and featured debaters from both FSU and Methodist University debating Equal Representation, Education, and Social Upheaval. The 2nd Annual Frederick Douglass Debates were held on February 20th, 2012 and again featured debaters from FSU and Methodist University debating the topics of Immigration, Voter Rights, and Censorship.
The 3rd Annual Frederick Douglass Debates will be held on February 20, 2013 in Seabrook Auditorium on the campus of Fayetteville State University. The event will feature a panel of seven community judges who will adjudicate the event. The judging panel will be announced at a later time closer to the date of the event.
